The Chinese character is "Tao" so I would call this painting "Walking the Spiritual Path." I read a book by Marie-Louise von Franz recently and she wrote of a world in which "religion, magic and the natural sciences are not yet divided" - I like to think of creating a world in which they almost intersect.

I'm not sure that this is finished - I thought it was but then I spattered a little nasty olive green on it a couple days ago and it had dried before I discovered it. So now I want to do some touchup work, and that leads me to wonder how much touching up does it need.

Her favorite new trick is taking my glasses off as I carry her down the stairs first thing in the morning. Now that's a challenge I never would have imagined! One of the cutest things, though, is when I take off my glasses to clean them and see all these teeny tiny little fingerprints on the lenses. She's so petite, so adorably petite.

Well, I think we've gotten lucky on the documentation here. Although I'm photographing these under the worst conditions (artifical lighting and - gasp! - using the flash), they are coming out fairly well. Not too much color distortion, at least not on my monitor. Who knows what you're seeing? The nice thing about this photo is that you can see the glittery irridescent pigments Robyn used in the painting.

Yes, this is another collaboration. I did the background - only kind of painting I can do while Gabrielle is in the room - and my friend Robyn painted the pretty buggies. I just got a frame yesterday and today I'm going to hang this lovely piece in Gabrielle's room, near the fairy-mobile also made by Robyn. Lucky Gabrielle.

This is actually an older painting, from the last days in Medford. Oils of course, my second barn. I think there will be many barns. I love Wolf Kahn and I love barns. So there. This was meant to be just an underpainting, but again (see Musing Dancer), for some reason I enjoy it the way it is, rough and sketchy. Something about the unfinished quality, like a half-remembered conversation. Someday I'll polish up all these paintings, burnish them into fine silver. Or not.

One of my fans has asked that I talk about process. This is, perhaps obviously, oil on canvas. There's really nothing that looks like oil on canvas, at least in my limited experience. My love-affair with oils began a couple years ago, and was derailed by events like pregnancy. However, I've recently resumed, because my in-laws have been kind enough to let me make a studio in their house, well out of reach of even the most enterprising baby. So I have delved back into the sensuous exploration that is oil. This painting was my first under instruction. It was meant to be a background, but I liked it so much as it is, that I've left it alone. I especially loved the feeling of dancing with the brush, swaying with each of the swirls.
